Beyond the specificity of AVA farming, John also selects single vineyard designate wines. Single vineyard wines tell the story of place both by their distinct terroir and their connection to John. Church Vineyard is a stunningly beautiful place, home to an 18th Century replica Pennsylvannian church. John initially farmed this land in 2002 then leased the land to grow his own fruit in 2006 and purchased the property in 2018.The sauvignon blanc from this plot is the perfect marriage of terroir and history. Crane Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley is another of John’s original vineyards, producing the inaugural vintage of Merlot. It is an elegant vineyard just north of Napa surrounded by eucalyptus trees and is home to the Cranes, his wife Michele’s family.
