Napa Valley is a unique agricultural Eden comprising a vast array of volcanic and marine soils, elevations and microclimates. Each of the 16 “nested” American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) provide a distinct winegrowing opportunity. John’s background as a farmer equips him with expertise to plant specific rootstock and varietals in the perfect AVA. Over time John has collected small, hidden-gem vineyards perfect for producing elegant, single varietal wines. Crisp, aromatic sauvignon blanc grows in a cooler climate. Rich, bright chardonnays come from lower elevations with marine soils. Luscious and complex cabernet sauvignons receive the perfect amount of sun exposure, yet cool enough to be harvested later in the growing season allowing deeper flavors to develop. AVA specific winegrowing is one of the greatest joys for a vintner.
