Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc

Inspired by legendary dessert wines of Sauternes, the John Anthony Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Church Vineyard, Los Carneros. This exceptional wine can only be made in rare vintage conditions, requiring a lengthy aging process to achieve its complex sweetness.

Los Carneros, southern Napa Valley is cooled by San Pablo Bay breezes. Similar to northern Sauternes it has clay terroir that retains water, allowing the fruit to ripen slowly and preserve its acidity. Late harvest dessert wines need the perfect balance of humidity and warmth to naturally produce “noble rot” (Latin: Botrytis), when the grapes shrivel on the vine preserving their sugars and intensifying flavors. Los Carneros’ winter rains, foggy mornings and warm days produce these perfect, yet rare conditions.

Just four vintages of this wine have been produced since John Anthony Vineyards began in 2003. These vintages led to wines that are patient to develop in the bottle with high acidity and an exceptionally long cellar life.

The John Anthony Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc is best enjoyed slightly chilled removing from the refrigerator 10-15 minutes before opening. It pairs beautifully with desserts (cheesecakes, lemon tarts, parfaits), or savory foods, especially tart blue cheeses (Roquefort, Point Reyes), foie gras, seafood and spicy, fragrant Asian dishes.
